Scapple App Reviews

Yep, misleading.

I have read the comment about the fact it was misleading and I bought it. I have tried SimpleMind Free, and then, bought Scrapple… Thinking it would be better. It is worst. You might be able to do a lot of things, but you have to think about it all the time. I mean, the arrows aren’t done automatically, you have to do them by yourself. No theme, i have to chose my font, my shadow, the place i put files. I don’t want to design, I want to resolve my backup plan puzzle! I should have bought, the one at 30$… I hate that….

Great customer service!

I accidentally bought two versions of Scapple, and the company refunded one, right away, no problem! Love the app...

Fabulous!

I’ve been looking for exactly this brainstorming tool for ages! The simple, open structure and easily changed links means you can jot things down as fast as you can think them, then organize and re-organize as the linkages emerge or new ideas strike you. You can made different streams of thought different colors, sizes or border-types, and bring order to chaos. Life’s complexities are rarely hierarchical! Thank you.

Great!

Nice brainstorming tool, thanks!

I felt let down at first, but not anymore..

I use Scrivener, and I always thought this would be a nice complement to it. So I finally broke down and did buy it last night, and to be honest, I felt let down. I even figured I’d ask for a reimbursement in the morning. While waiting, I figured I decided to read through the help guide. This app is so simple, I thought I wouldn’t need to at first. I was wrong. The features I thought were missing WERE there.. Turns out, this is a wonderful little tool. As simple as it first appears, it does allow for a lot of flexibility in thowing ideas down and playing with their organization afterwards. I gave it 4 stars because I think there is one thing missing. There should be a button to press to send directly as a new Scrivener document. You can still start Scrivener, drag your ideas into it and re-arrange them there, but to be able to click a button to launch a new Scrivver with my map as text bits would be awesomer. :)

Making Family Trees

I’ve been using Scapple to build basic family trees for a novel. I found actual genealogy software too overwrought for the level of detail require and lacking some particular features needed. Scapple solves this by being freeform while easily connecting individuals together. It makes the entire process far more organic as opposed to fill-in-the-blank. It would be nice to have slightly more fluid movement. For example, it would nice to be able to pinch to zoom and pan at the same time. It might also be helpful to have an canvas unlimited in every direction with a “back to content” button if one becomes lost. As it is, to extend outward, you must either move everything or inch a box out to expand the canvas.

Good. Where is iOS version?

I want the same for iPad and iPhone

Great!

Thank you for your app.

Good enough but not best

Dear authors this good program, when can we expect the expansion of the functionality of the program? Right now it’s not convient for the mane operations such a change styles of elements – all changing via menu and there are not shortcuts and toolbars for it. And I cannot to set new default styles for the elements. Every time I have to set them manually.

Just the beginning...

Nice idea but rudimentary implementation for the moment. It lacks tons of features (for the price). For instance: tabs, templates, toolbar for style/format. The example shown in the app store are hand-made and time consuming. Its very fast to jot down notes and very slow to format them nicely. Hope in future versions, but the price and the shown examples made me hope for something better.

good but...

I think it could be better, then it could be made simpler and finally it needs an iPAD VERSION!

a scapple a day keeps the wolves at bay

This a big old white board/canvas. You pull things there -- text, pics, screen snaps. You link them together with arrows in about the easiest way possible. You move the objects (boxes) around any old place. You can rearrange ideas (arrows follow), sort, quasi-outline, concept map, quasi-mind-map. Collect the info stuff you need for a project on a scapple, sort, arrange, filter, sift and use the scapple to write, graph, visualize, mind map. Can be great as a journal also (I create one a day). Pretty amazing app, worth the relatively high price. Highest recommendation. Also perfect for student notes. [If you like, you can create artistic mind maps, images in another program and easily drag them onto the scapple along with pictures.]

intuitive and really helpful

love this program. well thought out and works beautifully for what i need. integrates well with Scriviner. excellent purchase.

Easy, elegant and extremely useful

Im a fan of mindmapping use NovaMind when I want a more structured approach. However, Scapple is my new go-to program when I just want to dump out ideas from my brain and form connections. It allows me to see patterns, create coherent action plans, and quickly zoom into and out of key areas. Flexible, fast and fun. Highly recommended.

Liking it so far...

In a nutshell, this app is a very minimalist mindmapping tool. Its best feature over other MM software is that it does not force you into any kind of organizational tree. You just type and make connections as you see fit. Make sure to read their two-page quickstart guide under the help menu. I was making my first map (medications to be held on pre-op patients) for school within five minuets. I can already see myself using this on a regular basis to refine my notes. The biggest gripe about hand-written notes I have always had is once you have them on paper, thats it, you can not reorganize them without completely rewriting them, and then rewriting them again, and again. Now I can type them out here, make all the connections I want to, drag and drop from my other Scapple notes when units have cross matched concepts, and reorganize based upon priority and what areas I need the most work in. This is the mindmapping app I have basically been looking for ever since I started nursing school. Note to devs: If you make a companion iPad app, I WILL buy it.

Great app!

Great app! Thank you for making such a usfule app! It really helps organizing thoughts. Looking forward to more updates: such as more options for note shape and connetiong line, annotations for connection line. Highly recommend!

me like scapple

Easy to organize my ideas. I love the notion of a magnetic object.

Good idea, weak utility

A great idea and workspace for planning. But very limited ability to view, print, or share. Great if you are a loner! Too bad you cannot add page breaks for printing ordraw a box around what you want to print. I have lots of stuff in my plan, but no way to print it without a magnifying glass or big box of tape. And what about adding functionality for using bullets, indents, etc.??? Basic outline/word processing features dont exist. Come on, make the minor changes that will let this actually be a great tool! Please!

Great start

Im starting to like it more and more but would like to see a few things added: - Preloaded background styles and themes - Basic formatting and interaction controls that I can use instead of having to always remember keyboard shortcuts - Ability to add basic tables for organizing lists and tabular data - Support for bullets Its a great start though!

Great Progra! Used it immediately for presentation!

I couldnt be more pleased with SCAPPLE. Some here have commented on its difficulty in use, but my experience was just the opposite… I find it intuitive and deceptively easy to use. Best of all is the ease in which changes and updates can be performed to an existing "map". Just after purchasing Scapple I used it to outline a complex movie script with interlocking events and a (previoulsly) confusing timeline.… what once took an hour to explain is now viewable (and understandable) on a single page. I cant imaging another book or script that would not benefit from SCAPPLE! The export function to PDF was smooth and I can easily share the "maps" with everyone working on the project using a shared folder in Dropbox. I would love to see a version of SCAPPLE available for iPAD.
